Teresa Silva, Psy.D.

Dr. Teresa Silva has over 20 years experience providing psychological services to members of the community.  She obtained her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Psychology from Hofstra University.  She is a certified School Psychologist and a New York State Licensed Psychologist.  

She did her clinical internship at North Shore University Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry department.  She received training in individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, ADHD treatment, brief therapy and neuropsychological testing and evaluations. She is a cognitive behavioral therapist who specializes in the treatment of depression, trauma, anxiety, grief, panic disorder, stress-related conditions and pain management.  She is eclectic in her approach. She provides practical feedback to help clients effectively address life challenges.  She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.  With compassion and understanding she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing. 

In addition, Dr. Silva has worked extensively with adults with physical disabilities, post traumatic stress disorder, post concussion syndrome, chronic pain, chronic health conditions and cancer.  She performs disability evaluations for Social Security, Workers Compensation and for candidates for spinal-cord stimulators.  She also serves as an expert witness for medical malpractice and matters of disability and lawsuits.  Furthermore, she is bilingual and is fluent in Spanish.    

 


Robert Motta, Ph.D., ABPP

After obtaining a BA in Psychology from Northeastern University, Dr. Robert Motta served in the Army’s First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam.  While in Vietnam he was accepted to Hofstra's Psychology Doctoral Program and obtained his Ph.D. in 1975.  While in the doctoral program he began teaching psychology students and has been doing so for 40 years.  

Dr. Motta is the founder and director of the Psy.D. Doctoral Program in School-Community Psychology at Hofstra and is a former Chairperson of the Psychology Department.  He is a licensed psychologist and is Board Certified in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology from the American Psychological Association. 

Dr. Motta has published approximately 100 refereed journal articles and book chapters on topics dealing primarily with posttraumatic stress disorder and childhood adjustment disorders.  His work has been presented both nationally and internationally and he has developed a well-recognized scale for assessment of aspects of psychological trauma.
